PROJECT GOAL:
Improving awareness and knowledge on the new WHO abortion recommendations, implementing safe abortion and family planning services and strengthening strategic approach in the EECA region in this matter.
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
- Improved awareness and knowledge of WHO recommendations on self-care abortion and family planning among stakeholders, including providers, pharmacists, and policy makers, in EECA countries.
- Strengthened political will and commitment of Ministry of Health representatives in EECA countries to implement WHO 2022 recommendations on safe abortion, including aspects related to abortion and post-abortion self-care services.
- Strengthened knowledge and capacity of women and girls and women’s rights organizations in the EECA region to promote and use self-care in abortion and family planning services.
- Enhanced capacity of the Regional Reproductive Health and Rights Coalition to network and work collaboratively in advancing the WHO 2022 recommendations on safe abortion, especially those emphasizing the autonomy of women and girls seeking abortion and family planning services.
PROJECT ACTIVITIES:
- Engage stakeholders including providers, pharmacists, and policy makers in the EECA region in open discussions about self-care abortion and family planning.
- Synthesize self-care abortion and family planning resources and translate them into Russian for distribution to stakeholders including providers, pharmacists, and policy makers in the EECA region.
- Conduct trainings of trainers with facilitators of safe abortion and family planning modules who work at medical colleges, universities, and post-graduate institutions in the EECA region, emphasizing the importance of women’s autonomy and their role in self-care abortion and post-abortion care.
- Organize round table discussions with Ministry of Health officials on self-care abortion and family planning services.
- Carry out follow-up meetings with MoH officials to discuss the possibility of including self-care elements and developing step-by-step telemedicine algorithms for medical abortion services.
- Conduct informational sessions with women’s rights groups focused on self-care abortion and family planning.
- Support women’s groups in delivering informational resources on safe abortion and self-care interventions to their beneficiaries.
- Prepare and disseminate information, materials, and resources to Coalition members related to self-care abortion and family planning.
- Organize regional conference on safe abortion and family planning, with an emphasis on self-care services, advocacy, and capacity building mechanisms.
